Moonlight Magic was a great start to your Christmas shopping, but it gets better. The annual Downtown Christmas Open House is on Sunday, November 30th from 12 noon to 4pm. Over 30 Downtown stores and businesses will be open for your shopping pleasure. Complimentary horse drawn carriage rides, carollers and the Owen Sound City Band will be keeping Downtown hopping. Stop in at any participating store or businesses for a holiday surprise. The OSDIA office will be open to warm up your hands and enjoy a complimentary hot apple cider and gingerbread cooking. The Owen Sound Little Theatre will be hosting the 67th annual Western Ontario Drama League Festival in 2015! It’s a week of wonderful shows from across Southwestern Ontario with workshops, public adjudications, a hospitality suite and Awards Gala. The festival takes place March 16th to 21st, 2015. The OSDIA Board of Management has a new Board Member — Kathy Hannen. The Board reviewed and approved Ms Hannen’s application at the September 23rd Board Meeting. Her application was approved by Council at the October 6th Council Meeting. Kathy is the owner/operator of Grey Bruce Business Service located Downtown. She joined the OSDIA to become more involved in the community and to offer her skills as an IPBC Certified Bookkeeper, Marketing and Promotions, budget preparation and Human Resources. Ms Hannen says “as a ‘new’ business owner located in the Downtown, I would be honoured to be able to share and contribute my time and skills to assist the Board of the DIA with their initiatives for betterment of the Downtown and Owen Sound Area”. Are you a person who is generous with your spare time? Do you like being part of a successful event? Are you a supporter of Downtown Owen Sound? Then consider volunteering at the 26th Annual Hottest Yard Sale Under the Sun Saturday, July 5th. We are in need of volunteers for performer merchandise, performer Green Room, Back Yard Stage Cafe , and the Community Stage including a sound tech to operate a small system. Shift times vary but are no longer than 4 hours. If you’re interested contact the OSDIA office for a volunteer application form.
Two new Board Members have been appointed to the OSDIA Board of Management effective immediately, Patti Smith and Louise Nichol.
Patti Smith is the proprietor of Show Offs Home Stuff on 2nd Avenue East in the 900 Block. Patti shares the space with the Bleeding Carrot, owned by husband Jim Ansell. Both building and business owners Patti brings a strong commitment to improving and maintaining a vibrant Downtown.
Louise Nichol is the new owner of the Learning Academy on 2nd Ave. East in the 1000 block and brings with her extensive experience in Human Resources, working with non-profits and business management.
Patti and Louise’s first Board Meeting will be Thursday, April 17th. Please join us in welcoming them to the OSDIA.
The 2014 OSDIA Executive Officers were elected at the February 20th OSDIA Board of Management Meeting:

Terms will run until February 2015. There are also three Board vacancies. These terms also run to February 2015. Anyone interested in being considered for the Board should contact Maryann Thomas or the OSDIA office.
Plans have now been confirmed for the 2013 OSDIA Annual General Meeting. The AGM will be held March 11th, 2014 at the OSDIA offices at 854 2nd Ave. East Owen Sound. The event will start with a social from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The OSDIA business meeting will start at 6:30 and go no later than 7:30. Hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. This is the OSDIA Membership’s opportunity to participate in decision making, network with other members, and put questions to the OSDIA Board of Management. Contact the OSDIA office for details.
